Two examples of getting/staying on people’s good side—he’s doing the victory celebration of Mo Farah, local medal-winner, and holding the baton he tried to convince the officials to let him keep—they did eventually give it back to him, and he asked the rest of his relay team to sign it.
Yeah, he’s describing himself as a living legend, but he’s also stopping interviews so he can pause for the national anthem of one of the female winners. He’s not isolating himself from his colleagues…it’s a really fine line, but so far so good.
