It’s performances like this which make me disappointed when I hear people say the don’t like Eccelston or skip over that whole season just to get to Tennant. Tennant was fantastic and a brilliant Doctor, but there wouldn’t be a Tennant Doctor without Eccleston’s Doctor. The way Tennant’s Doctor was portrayed was the effect that Rose had on Nine. In the beginning, Nine was harsh and unforgiving having come back from the Time War, his time with Rose softened that harsh attitude and it’s really shown in this episode.
“Just this once, everybody lives!” Has to be my absolute favourite line in all the history of Doctor who because in that episode everyone did.THIS. SO MUCH THIS I CANNOT EVEN HANDLE ALL OF THE THISOCITY OF THIS STATEMENT.
Conversely, Nine ruined me for all the subsequent Doctors. Eccleston was amazing.
Aw, man. I hate the fandom’s not as sweet on Nine as they are on Ten and Eleven. Matt and David are great, don’t get me wrong, and I know that Chris isn’t exactly knocking people out of his way to get to Comic Con panels or anything, but—-just look at the performance. Look at the wounded person he was that was still searching for some sign of goodness or joy, and bit by bit found it—in Rose, in the day that nobody died, in the dancing.
